Lake District · Wild retreat for two

Slow nights, woodsmoke, and a wild swim under the Lakeland sky.

A hand-built shepherd's hut, a woodfired sauna by a natural swimming pond, and rolling pastureland right outside the door. Dolly is a proper wild retreat — for two.

A wild retreat

A little wilder. A lot more cosy.

Dolly is a slow weekend kind of stay. Light the sauna in the afternoon, watch the sky turn pink over the fields, slip from the spruce-warm heat into the cool of the swimming pond, then back to the hut for a hot kettle on the stove. A proper wild reset — wrapped in a soft duvet.

New for this season

Woodfired sauna by the pond

Our new woodfired sauna sits right on the deck above the natural swimming pond. Stoke the stove, let the spruce warm through, and watch the steam catch the light through the big glass front.

When you're glowing, step straight out, down the ladder, and into the pond. Lie on the deck with the sky above you, then back in for one more round. The kind of slow, simple ritual that turns a night away into something you'll be talking about for weeks.

The hut

A hand-built shepherd's hut for two.

Dolly is dark-green corrugated tin on the outside, all warm cream panelling and Edison-bulb glow on the inside. There's a proper double bed by the window, a little stove with a red kettle always at the ready, and a wild-swim print over the bed by way of a hint.

Solar-powered, off-grid in feel but never short on creature comforts — the kind of place that makes you exhale the moment you step in.

The setting

Rolling pastureland on the edge of the Lakes.

Sheep next door, blossom in spring, and big skies overhead. Walks from the gate, pubs and tea rooms a short drive, and the lakes themselves a stone's throw away. Bring boots, books, and someone you like a lot.
